China Intensifies Tug of War With India on Nepal

Celebration of Gyalbo Lhosar
Kathmandu, 14 Feb (Dainikee)
The Sherpa community is celebrating Gyalbo Lhosar, new year for the ethnic groups of the Himalayan Region. The new year 2137 is considered to be the year of the tiger, according to the Sherpa calendar. This new year is celebrated by Sherpas, Tamangs, Gurungs and Tibetan communities.
Basically there are three types of Lhosar celebrated in Nepal. They are Gyalbo Lhosar, Sonam Lhosar and Tamu Lhosar, of which Gyalbo Lhosar is celebrated by religious groups and business entrepreneurs. While Sonam Lhosar is celebrated by people with agricultural backgrounds and it falls on the 12th Tibetan month. And finally Tamu Lhosar is celebrated by the Gurung community almost two months back.
People celebrate Lhosar by dressing up in their traditional clothes and gather with their family members and friends to celebrate the joyous occasion. They take part in several cultural activities like dancing and singing.
The Tibetans on exile have decided not to celebrate Lhosar once again as a remembrance to people suffering inside Tibet.
