Bhandari’s trip to Delhi

Kathmandu, 22 July (Dainikee)

Defense Minister Bidya Bhandari is in New Delhi to seek military aid from India. After the invitation from Indian Defense Minister AK Antony to Minister Bhandari to join him to hold dialogues regarding defense assistance to Nepal as per the bilateral defense mechanism. The dialogue was held between Indian defense minister AK Antony, Minister of External Affairs, SM Krishna, and Foreign Secretary, Shivshankar Menon, separately on the issues of bilateral concerns.

This bilateral defense mechanism known as Nepal-India Defense Cooperation Committee will hold a meeting to analyse the current defense requirement of Nepal and as per this appraisal, Antony has agreed to meet Nepal's military requirement to the fullest possible extent. This meeting has not taken place for the past one and a half years.

After the royal takeover of 2005, India had declined any further assistance on the supply of lethal arms. Bhandari has not mentioned any specific requirement, she said that our country would need all kinds of weaponry and equipment for the training of the police and Nepal Army. Saying further that Nepal is at liberty of sending 5000 army personnel for peace keeping missions worldwide every year.

Indian leaders had further query regarding whether the Nepalese people are living free from any kind of fear and intimidation. They further discussed about Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal's likely visit in mid-August.
